You know how you travel to some places and you can’t wait to go back again?Well that’s exactly what Rome was with me. It truly was a way to unwind and de-stress. So, after my first year of university I decided to visit this one place top of my list… the beautiful city, Rome, with my boyfriend. I couldn’t have asked for a better long weekend. This city is a perfect place to relax and explore in the summertime. I have to say, I absolutely fell in love!!
The weather was a lot warmer than what I had anticipated, hitting 38 degrees the last two days! However, there’s no way I’m complaining as it completely set the most wonderful scene when exploring the streets – and of course, a great excuse to catch a tan!
Our hotel, FortySeven Boutique, was located in the city centre, with a 10 to 15 minute walk to most attractions. Each walk through the city bought us upon some incredible restaurants and shops located in the side streets – which would never be seen travelling by public transport! Personally, I feel walking this city is the best way to indulge in the culture, history and atmosphere.
Day one was the visit to Pantheon, and no doubt eating A LOT of gelato! For me, our second day was when I got to absorb the true Rome. We visited the Colosseum first, which is a MUST when visiting the city. After lunch overlooking the Colosseum, we spent the rest of the day exploring the Roman Forum and Palantine Hill, both two of the most ancient parts of the city. I can say our time was spent lounging in the sun, exploring the sites, shopping and immersing ourselves in the culture & food.
