Summer holiday makeup is actually one of my favourite. It’s effortless, quick and so much easier when you’ve got a bit of a tan. I also find that when you’re away, you don’t want to spend all evening getting ready, you want to go out enjoy, explore and relax. Of an evening I generally go for a quick and effortless look, and I definitely like to keep my base as minimal as possible.
No matter whether I’m wearing foundation or powders I always make sure I put a primer on. Even if I’m going bare faced I usually put a primer on in the evening just to keep my skin extra hydrated. If you want to diminish the skins oil levels in the heat, my top pick would be Benefit’s Porefessional as it not only mattifies the skin but keeps your skin look flawless and oil-free all evening. It seems to smooth out the skins texture to, which is perfect if you do choose to not wear face makeup. I tend to go in the opposite direction on holiday and want even more of a glow, so my favourite is the L’Oreal Lumi Magique Primer. This primer acts as the perfect base for a dewy look and adds an insane ‘lit-from-within’ glow that looks so pretty on holiday. This doesn’t necessarily make your skin more oily, it just adds luminosity and can also just be worn on the high points of the face if you want minimal makeup with a dreamy glow.
For the base I don’t ever wear foundation. I find it too heavy and sticky in the heat and after the first few days my foundation never matches anyway. All I do for liquid based coverage products is a concealer to either hide my dark circles or spot conceal. This year I’m taking with me my trust Urban Decay Naked Concealer, which is the perfect match for my skin tone and adds medium to full coverage whilst sinking into the skin and looking invisible to the eye. Honestly, you don’t look like you’re even wearing any makeup with this on.
To bronze and glow I use the Chanel Tan De Soleil, which is a cream based bronzer. I tend to use this in the areas I usually contour, so cheekbones, jawline and forehead just to add a little glow. The creaminess of this product works so well with bare skin and appears so natural. You can build this up if you want to as well without it feeling or looking cakey. To get that natural finish I apply it with a Stippling Brush and lightly sweep it across the chosen areas in circular motions. For a glow I always use a liquid formula as I feel holiday skin is always a lot more dewy/oily so a liquid glow sits really well on the skin. I switch between two, one a cheaper alternative to the other. This year I’ll be taking my Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops in Sunlight, a warm golden bronze glow as they work amazing with tanned skin. A drugstore alternative is the Primark Strobe Cream, which come in a variation of shades. These aren’t as long lasting but are so dewy and make the skin pop. They also work as a great base for powder highlighters.
To make the eyes pop I pop on a little bit of mascara. My holy grail for fast volume and length is the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. Many of you may have heard of this before, but I needed to share it. If you love the ‘false lash effect’ then you’ll love this. It’s the perfect solution for quick makeup as it gives instant results.
For the lips I always opt for a gloss when doing quick vacation makeup. A gloss is not only easy to top up but looks so effortless with minimal makeup. A favourite of mine for this are Too Faced Sweet Peach Lip Gloss Oils, as they’re hydrating, long lasting and so comfortable to wear. They don’t give that sticky feeling either; instead they make your lips look juicy and full of life.
And that concludes my 5-minute vacation makeup, which I’m pretty sure will end up being my evening routine on holiday! There’s nothing better than fast makeup so you can get out of the hotel room, eat all the food and drink all the cocktails is there?
