I’m not going to lie, when it comes to packing my makeup bag I used to be uber obsessive. I used to take endless amounts of makeup products that I didn’t need. Three foundations, ten lipsticks, three different eyeshadow palettes – a bit excessive, right? Then, after the first day of being there, my foundation no longer matches and I want to be as minimal with my makeup as possible in the heat. This time around I’m changing the game and taking as little as possible. So if you’re an over packer to, then my new minimal makeup bag packing tips might sway you to take only what you’ll need.
I only ever wear makeup in the evening, as I like to be barefaced during the day, so here’s what I’m taking with me this year.
First. If you’re going somewhere super hot and you’re gonna get sticky, I’d suggest to either not take a foundation or take a BB cream. It’s unbelievable how many times I’ve taken foundations away with me and not used them, so this year I’m not taking one. To prep the skin I’ll be using a dewy primer as I love a true glow on holiday, and I’ll be taking a the L’Oreal Lumi Magique Primer as I recently rediscovered this and am obsessed again. It adds instant glow and also looks so pretty worn alone. I generally stick to using a bit of concealer to hide any spots or blemishes and that’s the base done. My favourite for this is the Urban Decay Naked Concealer as it’s so lightweight and becomes invisible to the eye. Two products and that’s the base done.
When you’re on holiday there’s nothing quite like a bronze glow. For that I tend to stick with my trusty MAC Gimme Sun Bronzer as it’s dark enough to bronze up my skin no matter what tan I achieve. It also sits so well on bare skin and doesn’t feel powdery. To get that ultimate glow I’ll of course be taking a blinding highlight duo, consisting of the Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops in Sunlight and Anastasia Beverly Hills Highlight in So Hollywood – this is my go to for a golden glow! For a pop of added colour on the cheeks I’ll use my favourite Benefit GALifornia Blush, a pretty peach shade that is beautiful with sunkissed skin. Then to finish the face you can’t forget the setting spray, especially in the heat, and I’ll be taking the Urban Decay All Nighter away with me as it does wonders for locking your makeup into place all evening.
Instead of taking a heap of palettes that really never even make it out of the suitcase, I’m taking just one. Yes you read it right, one! I’ve chose to take the trusty Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette, as burnt orange and chocolate shades are my go to for holiday. With the matte shades are some beautiful shimmers and you can really create so many looks from this one palette. You can go for a subtle gold shimmery eye to a smoky deep brown, so I really do trust buy accutane 10mg this to get me through the two weeks. When I got this I used it for weeks without using anything else, so I’m pretty sure it’ll do me justice. To prime the lids I’ll use my concealer as I always do and set it with the Nars Translucent Powder, which will be used for the face sometimes to (this powder is so versatile and is great for light packing).
I don’t actually wear liquid or kohl liner at the minute, so I can skip that part and it’s straight onto the lashes. For more minimal days I’ll stick by the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara as it adds amazing length and volume so fast. When I want to dress my face up a bit more I’ll be using my favourite Ardell Wispies.
I’ll be keeping it quite simple for the lips with a nude liner and lipstick, probably MAC Spice and Tarte’s Matte Lip Paint in Bestie. For a brighter lip I’ll be using the oh so beautiful Sydney Amaryllis matte liquid lipstick from The Body Shop, which is a bright coral that looks so pretty with bronzed skin. For a bit of sass I’ll be throwing in Jouer’s Lip Topper in St Tropez that is super pigmented and leaves your lips a shimmering champagne shade.
How many products was that, 15? As opposed to the 30+ I used to take, I think I’ve done pretty well. This all fits into my cute Skinny Dip Peach makeup bag WITH lots of room for other stuff (as opposed to the huge bag double this size that I used to take).
Along with the makeup, you can’t forget all the essential makeup brushes and tools, but for those I’m also taking as little as I can. Of course my priority is my Beautyblender as I can’t go anywhere with it and for the bronze and glow I’ll use a fluffy bronzer brush and Zoeva Fan Brush.
My eye brushes will consist of a large fluffy blender, small crease brush and inner corner highlight. I love to pack on the lid colour with my finger as it picks up more pigment and also means one less brush! I pack all of my brushes along with the other tools in my Blank Canvas Cosmetics Compact Upright Pouch, a super handy storage tool for any makeup kit. You can read all about it here.
I also ALWAYS pack a few tools, as you never know what you might need whilst you’re away. This includes:
Tweezers – for those flyaway brows / Small scissors – can be used for anything & A Spoolie Brush – to comb through the brows and lashes.
That’s my holiday makeup bag done! Honestly, that’s a quarter of the makeup I used to take. Why did I feel the need to take half my collection for one face? I really have no idea. If you’re an over packer I hope this little list of product I’m taking away with me inspires you to pack less!
What’s your go to evening holiday makeup look?
